Danone - Unimilk joined the National Dairy Producers Union

June 16, Moscow- The largest producer of dairy products in Russia Danone - Unimilk joined the National Dairy Producers Union (SOUZMOLOKO). This decision was boosted by company’s interest in building long-term partnerships with all players of the market and the efficient development of the Russian dairy industry.

The first joint step, initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, was the launch of the programme aimed at stimulating the increase in consumption of milk and dairy products in Russia. The programme takes into account the interests of different groups of people: children, youth, families and retirees. This decision was boosted by company’s interest in building long-term partnerships with all players of the market and the efficient development of the Russian dairy industry.

It is important to bring the current level of milk consumption, which now amounts to 247 kg per person per year, to the medically recommended healthy standards of 320-340 kg per person per year. In order to achieve this goal, different marketing tools will be used in order to highlight the advantages of consuming dairy products, to protect consumers from poor quality product and eventually to build the new dairy consumption culture. «Russian products have many advantages comparing to their foreign substitutes. Domestic food products are carefully monitored at all stages of production, which guarantees its quality», - said Minister of Agriculture of the Russia Elena Skrynnik. According to the Minister, the work of the Russian Government is focused primarily on improving the living standards of the nation. «The programme, which is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, is crucial for increasing demand for domestic products, which, ultimately, will positively affect the health of our citizens», - said Elena Skrynnik. The Chairman of the Board SOUZMOLOKO, Andrei Danilenko, said that in the last 20 years the consumption of milk and dairy products in Russia fell dramatically. Aggressive advertising campaigns of alternative beverages and snacks, fast rhythm of life and many other factors modified people’s dietary habits, which were typical for our country. Understanding this, Danone - Unimilk joined SOUZMOLOKO in order to participate more actively in the development of the dairy industry. Russia is the largest market for Danone in the world; therefore the company is extremely interested in the development of the Russian dairy industry, and sees SOUZMOLOKO as its strategic partner on this matter.
